In February 2008, the City of St. Joseph submitted a long-term control plan to reduce sewer overflows to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR). The Combined Sewer System Long-Term Control Plan details the city’s commitment to controlling the number of sewer overflows and the frequency of overflows that discharge into the Missouri River. The plan is required by MDNR and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as part of the Clean Water Act.

Over the course of the next decade, there were several improvement projects identified and completed that were necessary to meet the future collection system and treatment needs for St. Joseph. Some of these projects were focused on preventative maintenance, while others were focused on expanding some of the systems. On many of the improvement projects, Victaulic’s solutions for the wastewater market were utilized.

Throughout the St. Joseph WWTP, Victaulic solutions for ductile iron pipe were utilized on 6” – 66” pipe. Style 31 AWWA Couplings, Style 341 Flange Adaptors, Style 44 Vic-Ring Traditional Grooved Couplings, and AWWA fittings were just some of the products utilized on the systems. Victaulic provided large diameter solutions for the disinfection room. Additionally, Victaulic’s solutions were able to meet the constructability challenges with the curvature of the drain piping system. Victaulic’s solutions also provided the project stakeholders the ability to add on to and expand the systems at a later point, if necessary.
