  • Confiabilidad
  • Mitigated Risk
  • Minimized Schedule

The Johnson Street Water Treatment Plant, located in Winona, Minnesota, recently upgraded its influent piping system. The existing stainless steel system needed to be replaced due to corroded field welds.

The owner of the plant, Winona Water Department, had utilized Victaulic’s solutions for the water and wastewater markets on other plants. The owner trusted Victaulic to provide a reliable pipe joining solution that would last the life of the system.  Unlike a welded system, grooved piping does not require a passivation process and the integrity of each joint is verifiable.

The influent piping system upgrades needed to occur in a two-day shutdown window. The demolition of the old system and installation of the new system needed to occur in a tight timeframe. The Winona Water Department utilized Victaulic’s solutions for construction modularization to reduce the construction schedule. The engineer, SEH, provided Victaulic with a 3D scan which Victaulic utilized to develop a more accurate Revit model of the piping system. Then, the model was used to create fabricated spool pieces which significantly reduced field joints. 75% of the joints were preinstalled before arriving at the job site.

Not only did Victaulic’s solutions help to modularize the construction and minimize the schedule, but also helped to mitigate the risk of the project stakeholders.
